Poor segments to get direct aid not Govt: Cameron Munter

ISLAMABAD: The US government wanted to upgrade the living standards of poor segments in Pakistan instead of providing financial aid to the government, said Cameron Munter United States Ambassador to Pakistan.

Talking to the persons here on Tuesday during the presentation of 2011 Woman Courage Award, the ambassador said that US would continue its complete support with different areas in Pakistan particularly the development of the women sector. A Pakistani lady namely Ghulam Sughra was awarded the 2011 Women Courage Award. He further said that the US government would continue their support in different sector particularly the social sector. Social sector needs special attention, as it is backbone in the development of the country, he added.
To a query, he said that the ties between Pakistan and US have smooth ties while misconceptions on the governmental levels could be removed by dialogues. HE declined to comment on report of ISI published in US paper that termed the spy agency as among the terrorist organizations.
