KARACHI: The Inspector General of Sindh Fiaz Laghari has said that during the
first four months of 2011 some 575 murders took place in Karachi out of which
only 38 incidents of were related to target killings.
He was giving briefing to a high level meeting about law and order situation
at Karachi , which was held at Chief Minister’s House hereon Tuesday. He said
that police has registered about 125 cases whereas some culprits were
apprehended form Gulshan -e-Johar involved in extortion and target killings .
He informed the meeting that police has rooted out three notorious gangs in
only 10 days. He said that the deployment of police has been increased with red
alert instructions in two troubled areas including Korangi Town and
Gulistan-e-Johar where more case of target killings occurred.
Responding to a question IG said that the criminals arrested told the police
that they belonged to ANP on which Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah said that
culprits may tell their links to any political party just to safe their skins.
“At this juncture it would not be appropriate to involve any political party as
the blame game could create problems.”, the CM added. Online
