Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari on Tuesday signed on 20th
Amendment Bill which was already passed by the National Assembly and
Senate and now it has become a part of the Constitution.
The
amended bill was meant to protect the 28 lawmakers elected in by-polls
after the passage of 18th Amendment after being questioned the legal
status by the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
Now the members get constitutional protection after the approval by the President.
Speaking on the occasion, the President said that the bill will ensure free and fair elections in the country.
The National Assembly unanimously approved the bill on February 14 while Senate on February 20. Online
