19 killed in firing on bus near Kohistan; Malik forms committee to probe incident

At least 19 people were killed in firing on a bus near Kohistan on Tuesday; meanwhile Interior Minister Rehman Malik has formed high level committee to probe the matter.

At least 19 people were killed Tuesday when gunmen opened fire on a bus in Pakistan s mountainous northern district of Kohistan.

The bus was carrying passengers from Rawalpindi to the northern city of Gilgit. The motive was unclear as militants are not active in the area, police said.

“Armed men hiding on both sides of the road attacked the bus,” local police chief Mohammad Ilyas said. “Initial reports said 19 people have died and eight wounded,” he added.

The ambush happened near the town of Harban, 130 miles (208 kilometres) north of the capital Islamabad. The injured were shifted to the Shatiyal hospital some 2km away from the spot.
The ambush happened near the town of Harban Nullah. DCO Chilas confirmed the incident.
According to a private TV channel the number of gunmen was eight and the attackers stopped the bus and after checking the identity cards killed the passengers by firing.
Meanwhile Federal Interior Minister has formed a committee to probe into attacks on a passenger bus in northern district of Kohistan, killing 19 people.
Authorities said the committee, headed by DIG Hazara, would present its report within three days as officials from ISI, IB and police were included in the body. SANA
