US-led NATO forces attack on Pakistan check posts can lead to utterly grave repercussions: Abbas Athar

Pakistani military on Monday warned that Saturday’s Mohmand attack by US-led NATO forces can lead to utterly grave repercussion.

Director General Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Athar Abbas said in separate interviews with BBC and Pakistani private channel that at least 72 personnel of Pakistan’s armed forces including officers have been martyred and over 250 have been injured in seven to eight NATO attacks within three years.
Reacting to NATO’s apology over the lethal Mohmand attack, Pak Army spokesman said the expression of regret by the NATO is not enough, adding that such kind of activities were also carried out in past.
“We don’t accept NATO’s regret. Pak Army’s leadership will decide about the reaction,” ISPR DG added, adding that new strategy would be devised after the consultations of the leadership and the limits of cooperation in fields of intelligence, military, political and diplomatic would be decided by the leadership of the country.
He said that if the NATO and ISAF claim that Pakistan attacked first is totally wrong, adding that if their claim is true then they should bring some proof of dead bodies or injuries of the NATO/ISAF solders.
He said that the NATO and ISAF regional headquarter in Afghanistan was informed by Peshawar and Rawalpindi headquarters but the attack continued for two hours and 24 solders were martyred and 13 others were injured.
He said that two sub-check posts were established 300 meter inside the Pakistani border and ISAF and NATO forces were informed about the establishment of these check posts so that they should have maps of these check posts with them while initiating any action.
He said that the Pakistani forces conducted retaliatory fire on NATO and ISAF helicopters, adding that there were no militants present in the area as Pakistani forces took over the area by sacrificing over 70 solders.
He said that the investigations are underway and anything would be said after the completion of the investigation.
Major General Athar Assabs did not respond to the question in how many days the Shamsi airbase would be vacated and which kind of activities was being conducted at the airbase. SANA
