ISLAMABAD: US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said her
country understands the economic troubles faced by Pakistan amidst war
against terrorism.
In her interaction with civil society,
traders and students here, Clinton said Pakistan paid a heavy price in
anti-terrorism war, adding Pakistan’s stance regarding Afghanistan is
quite right.
“Pakistan is an important country of the region and
we acknowledge its sacrifices in anti-terror fight,” the US top
official asserted adding, “We are fully aware of the challenges facing
Pakistan’s armed forces.”
The US and Pakistan have shared
interests, she said underlining the US commitment towards the
elimination of terrorist elements including Haqqani Network.
“We enter into agreements with the private security agencies for the protection of diplomats,” she added.
On a query she said aim of drone strikes with in tribal belt was to eliminate the safe sanctuaries of terrorists.
She said world defame “Black Water” did not exist in Pakistan.
Clinton
assured she would raise Pakistan voice in US Congress to understand the
ground realities regarding situation in Pakistan.
She said US would help to sort out problems hurdle in textile and cotton exports into its markets.
She
said it was surprising that US is spending billions of dollars in
Pakistan but there were still anti-US sentiment in the people here.
Clinton urged Pakistani people to pay taxes to overcome various crises including energy disaster.
She emphasized education in Pakistan saying that to educate women is like to build a civilized society. Online
