Pakistani students promote London 2012 Olympic values through art

ISLAMABAD: British High Commission invited 29 children from a number of schools across Islamabad to celebrate ’Sports for All’, promoting the values and principles of the Olympic and Para-olympic Games.

According to a press release, part of the UK’s 2012 Legacy programme is to deliver an innovative global sports programme called International Inspirations which is aimed at young people from all backgrounds, going to the heart and soul of our vision for the 2012 Games and, the Olympic Truce resolution, which earlier this week was unanimously sponsored by all 193 members of the UN General Assembly. The only UN resolution ever to do so.
The aspiration for this programme in Pakistan is for at least 1 million children and young people to have access to high quality and inclusive PE and sport.
The children were shown a short inspirational video on the London 2012 Olympic games and then created drawings and paintings to represent these Olympic values to promote sport as something that is open to everyone no matter their background, gender, race or if they have a disability.
On the occasion of the event, Deputy High Commissioner Alison Blake said: "I want to thank these children and their teachers for giving their all today and for producing some excellent pictures that truly represent the Olympic values.
The vision for the London 2012 Games and the Olympic Truce is focussed on young people and giving them a voice. Sport is one of those forces which can offer real hope.
We want to harness the opportunity the 2012 London Games present to bring about a change in the way people think, feel and behave, especially towards disability and disability sport to create a more open and inclusive society.
The 2012 London Games are not just about inspirational performances from the world’s greatest athletes; they are not just about memorable and spectacular Games and showcasing London and the UK; they are about the people of Britain welcoming the world, and they are about millions of people from across the globe coming together to share in an unforgettable experience.
With less than 300 days to go, I want to use this opportunity to encourage people around the world to be part of the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic experience. The British High Commission will continue to work with people from all over the country to bring the 2012 London Games to Pakistan." Online
