Beefed up security at airports: UK hands over 18 EDS

RAWALPINDI: In order to beef up the existing security system at the airports, the UK Department of Transport is providing Security Assistance Programme which will include 18 Explosive Detection System (EDS) equipment to Airport Security Force (ASF) be deployed at major airports of the country.

To this effect, the handing over ceremony was held in the Ministry of Defence Thursday in the presence of Secretary Defence, Lt. General (Retd) Syed Athar Ali and British High Commissioner to Pakistan, H.E. Adam Thompson.
This assistance programme also includes basic training and one year maintenance program.
Both the governments have also agreed to continue their cooperation in the field of aviation security. In order to maintain the relationship on more sustainable basis, they have agreed to continue meetings more frequently. Online
