The Judicial Commission has recommended names of four judges’ for elevation to Supreme Court and three for Islamabad High Court on Thursday.
The Judicial Commission meeting was held here under the Chairmanship of Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
According to sources the names of current CJ Lahore High Court
Justice Chaudhry Ijaz and current CJ Peshawar High Court Justice Ijaz
Afzal have been approved for the Supreme Court.
The names of Justice Gulzar Ahmed from the Sindh High Court and
Justice (retd) Athar Syed have also been approved for the Supreme
Court.
Sources further added that Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed’s name has been
approved for the position of Chief Justice Lahore High Court while the
name of Justice Dost Muhammad has been approved for Chief Justice
Peshawar High Court.
The three names, Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui, Azam Afridi and M Qureshi
have been recommended to appoint as judges’ of Islamabad High Court.
These names will now be forwarded to the parliamentary committee for approval.
It is worth mentioning here that there were 13 judges’ in Supreme
Court after elevation of these judges to apex court the number of judges
would be completed. SANA
