ISLAMABAD: Shrugging off the US pressure turning into threats to do
more in war on terror, Pakistan started weighing its options to
including suspension of NATO supply transit on security pretext.
Besides
unequivocal reactions to the threatening American statements by Foreign
Minister Hina Rabbani Khar in US and Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq
Pervez Kayani in Rawalpindi, the government high ups on Friday
contemplated on the country’s options in case the sole super power goes
any further in arm twisting. According to well places sources
suspension of NATO supply transit could be the very first option with
Pakistan if at all it has to return to the US the coin.
The US
Secretary of Defence Leon Panetta as well as military chief Mike Mullen
made allegations against Pakistan respectively meetings with Hina
Rabbani Khar and Ashfaq Pervez Kayani.
Well placed sources told
Online Friday ties between the two allied countries were heading
towards heightened tension after US had levelled severe allegations
against Pakistan.
Pakistan has decided to give response
following the statements made by U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral
Mike Mullen for involving Pakistan in aiding insurgents to attack
American embassy in Kabul and by US defence secretary for conducting
unilateral action against militants inside Pakistan territory.
Sources
told grave charges brought by top U.S. authorities against Pakistan
have been viewed very surprising by Pakistan senior political and
military leadership. Pakistan had rendered sacrifices in war against
terrorism more than any other country and U.S. is giving reward to
Pakistan in the shape of accusations.
Sources further disclosed
Pakistan had started considering suspending supply line to NATO in the
face of security concerns after the charges have been levelled. However
final decision is expected soon.
Sources confirmed that
Pakistan had other options as well which were being considered. However
they avoided to drop any hint about these options.
It may be
recalled that transportation of 70 percent supply of goods to NATO
takes place through Pakistan. NATO and U.S. troops can face immense
difficulties in the event of disconnection of supply line.
Earlier
Pakistan had decided to suspend NATO supply line for security reasons
following May, 2 incident and the decision was taken back after U.S.
senator John Kerry visit to Pakistan. Online
