PPP-MQM reaches near reconciliation

Pakistan People’s Party and Muttahida Qaumi Movement have reached near the accord as governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ibad met with former law minister Babar Awan here on Saturday.

Both the parties have decided to solve the problems through consultative process and vowed to work for the strengthening of democratic institutions.
Ishratul Ebad was holding joint press conference with People’s Party’s Dr Babar Awan.
Dr Ishratul Ibad said consultations were going on to take political and administrative steps in order to improve Karachi’s security situation.
He further said that “why should we allow the conditions to deteriorate to a point that we have to call in the army?”
Ishratul Ebad said the tension between the People’s Party and the MQM has harmed the country.
Ishratul Ebad informed the media that the two parties working on a formulae of cooperation for peace. He said other elements have taken benefit of the political differences between the two parties.
“We have to save the situation in Karachi from further deterioration,” he said. We will not let the situation to go to extreme,” Ebad added.
He said most of the matters between two sides have been settled with the guidance of President Zardari.
PPP leader Babar Awan said that the party is working for strengthening democratic institutions in the country, adding that conssulation process with MQm would continue in future also.
Moreover, Dr Ibad said that the result of meeting with the senior PPP leader would soon be evident.
He said the country is suffering due to political turbulence and steps would be taken to protect the country and its institutions.
He added that other elements are taking advantage of political differences and these are being exploited to disrupt peace in Karachi.
Babar Awan said that the politics of reconciliation would be promoted in the country, adding that allegation could not serve the masses of Karachi and Pakistan.
He said that it was decided that the matters would be taken seriously and ways and means for the solution of the problems would be devised.
“There is clear-cut modus operandi for new provinces in the Constitution,” Babar said, adding that issues should be resolved through negotiations.
Sindh Governor said President Asif Ali Zardari and MQM chief Altaf Hussain gave a boost to reconciliation in national politics.
Ebad said the government would not allow anyone to disrupt Karachi’s peace at any cost, adding a third party was taking advantage of the differences among political parties.
“We had differences with the government over political issues,” he added.
“We had no discussion regarding MQM’s coming back into the coalition government on federal and provincial levels,” Ebad stressed, adding it was positive steps which would lead to a stable Pakistan.
All political parties are in agreement for action against the saboteurs disrupting peace, he added, informing that Babar Awan would soon visit Karachi.
Earlier, President Asif Ali Zardari on Friday invited Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) to rejoin the government, promising to address its demands and concerns.
