Karachi building collapse death toll rises to 20

At least eight more bodies, two were women among them, have been recovered from the rubble of the five-storey building collapsed on Thursday in the Musa Lane area of Layari in Karachi, taking the overall death tally to 20 .

Meanwhile, police claimed to have taken the owner of the building and his two brothers under investigation.
The hope for recovery of living people from the debris is fast ceasing with the passage of the time as eight more dead bodies were recovered during rescue operation on Saturday. The overall death toll from the collapse of building has mounted to 20 now.
According to the rescue teams nearly 20 to 25 people are still buried under the debris of the building; meanwhile it could take another 48 hours to complete the rescue operation due to slow pace of the rescue work.
A dead body was recovered at the time of Sehar on Saturday morning. The man was identified as Mohammed Iqabl who lived at the fourth storey.
The body of 16-year Haseeb, lived at the second floor and two women’s were recovered at the time of Fajar Prayer. Another dead body was recovered after 8am on Saturday morning.
Authorities have evacuated three buildings located at the front, right and left sides of the ill-fated building for fear of collapse. These buildings have lived their lives and crossed the age of expiry. These may cave in at anytime, the officials claimed. The funeral prayer of a woman has been offered at the mosque in Musa Lane.
DIG South Commander Shaukat claimed to have made part of investigation the owner of Qasr-e-Rukaiyya and his two brothers.
Relatives of the trapped people demanded government of making the rescue operation speedy and provide the rescued people with accommodation facility on immediate basis.
Sindh chief minister Qaim Ali Shah announced compensatory money for Musa Lane victims.
The chief minster announced that the heirs of the people died in the Musa Lane building collapsed will be paid compensatory money.
According to the announcement, Rs 300,000 each will be paid to the heirs of the bread earners of their families while Rs 200,000 each will be given to the families of other deceased.
The chief minister has also announced Rs 50,000 for each injured. SANA
