Pakistan protests arrest of alleged agent in US

Pakistan has protested the arrest of a Kashmiri-born man in the United States on charges he was working for Pakistan's spy agency to lobby in Washington for the cause of Kashmiri independence.

Thursday's government statement says the arrest of Syed Ghulam Nabi Fai of the Kashmiri American Council was an attempt to "defame the just cause of the Kashmiri people."
It did not address the accusation that he was an unregistered agent for Pakistan's spy agency.
Prosecutors say Fai worked to influence Congress and to develop contacts at the White House and State Department, under the supervision of a senior member of Pakistan's spy agency. He was arrested by the FBI on Tuesday and is due in federal court in Virginia for a detention hearing later Thursday. AP
