PM Gilani vows to make Pakistan prosperous by following Benazir’s vision

Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani said on Monday the government would turn Pakistan into a real Islamic, democratic and prosperous state by adhering to the vision of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. In a message on Benazir Bhutto’s birth anniversary Gilani said, “We believe that the right way to present tribute to our Shaheed leader, is to follow her teachings and guidelines, particularly the policy of reconciliation.” Gilani said she upheld national interests against personal and party agendas and signed the ‘Charter of Democracy’ which is regarded as an authentic political document.
He said Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed introduced a new culture and ideology in the national politics by presenting the philosophy of reconciliation.
“Our government is amicably following this philosophy of our Shaheed leader with determination,” Gilani added.
The Prime Minister said the Shaheed leader was country’s acclaimed political leader and Islamic world’s renowned scholar at the national and international political scene.
He said with her extraordinary intellect and wisdom she has left behind a glowing legacy, by following in the footsteps of her father and the country’s first elected prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Shaheed.
He said the late leader continued political struggle during trying and tough times of dictatorship and fought hurdles of prison, exile and unjust restrictions with utmost courage and acumen.
Prime Minister Gilani said as a result of her struggle, Pakistan Peoples Party won the general election and Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto became the first prime minister in the Islamic world.
He said with her political vision and sagacity, Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto made remarkable achievements in national development and for the prosperity of nation through multi-pronged strategy.
But unfortunately, her journey could not continue after her government was made to fall, the Prime Minister said.  He added that at this difficult phase, Mohtarma showcased exemplary ambition and courage and once again formed a government of the people with their will and support.
“An objective and analytic comparison of both tenures reveals that she always struggled for strengthening of democracy, ensuring coordination between the state institutions and bringing change in political culture, in the country,” he said.
Let us pledge on the birthday of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto: “We will make Pakistan in true sense an Islamic, democratic, balanced and prosperous state in line with the visions of our national poet Allama Muhammad Iqbal, founder of Pakistan Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Quaid-i-Awam Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto.”
“We will continue our fight against terrorism and the negative perception of extremism which targeted our great leader on December 27, 2007,” the Prime Minister said and prayed to Allah Almighty to bless Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto’s soul.
“Give us courage to work for the betterment of our country and nation in line with her political teachings. Amen,” he added. APP
