US, Pakistan must restore confidence following Abbottabad operation: UK

Islamabad : British Minister for South Asia at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Alistair Burt, has said that the United States and Pakistan must restore confidence following the secret military operation conducted by the US in Abbottabad that killed Al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden on May 2.

Talking to journalists at the British High Commission in Islamabad, Burt said: "There is a need for both the countries to encourage confidence-building measures," The Daily Times quoted Burt, as saying.

Burt also emphasised that the United Kingdom and Pakistan have close relations in terms of trade and other activities, but "there are some security concerns in Pakistan that need to be addressed."

Answering a question, the British Minister also said that the UK strongly supported bilateral negotiations between India and Pakistan for resolving their disputes through talks.

"Both are nuclear powers and war is no solution to any of their problems, as it will only bring destruction to both the countries," Burt said. ANI
