Shortfall of electricity would rise to 6000 mw during next fiscal year

Islamabad: The statistics of Planning Division revealed that demand of electricity in Pakistan could rise to some 21,000 mega watts by next financial year whereas the current power generation is about 13,000 mw while the government has a plan to add only 2,000 mega watts approximately in it.

According to PEPCO , at present the country faces the shortfall of 4000 mw as the prevailing demand of the country is almost 17026 mw and the production is about 13000 mega watts . During next financial year the shortfall could be reached to 6000 mw against the demand of 21000 mega watts .It is being planed by the Ministry of Water and Power to put in extra 2110 mw of electricity in the current production of 13000 mw.
The Planning Commission’s documents also disclosed that next year the distribution companies can purchase electricity form the generation companies directly to expand the investment in energy sector. Online
