Suspect in Saudi diplomat's killing arrested

ISLAMABAD: Pakistani police arrested on Wednesday a key suspect in the attack on the Saudi Consulate in Karachi and the assassination of Saudi diplomat Hassan Al-Qahtani, officials said.
Muntazir Imam alias Tunda, a resident of Shah Faisal Colony in Karachi, was involved in the attack and the killing of Al-Qahtani, Arab News learned from Sharifuddin Memon, adviser to chief minister of Sindh province, and Saud Mirza, a police officer in Karachi.

The officials did not say if the suspect is a member of the Al-Qaeda network, which Interior Minister Rehman Malik has held responsible for Al-Qahtani's assassination. Investigators in Karachi are focusing on Al-Qaeda in their probe.

Some militant groups in the country have threatened to avenge the killing of Al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden by US commandos in a raid in Abbotabad, Pakistan, on May 2.

Karachi police have not yet released the closed circuit TV footage to the media about the Saudi diplomat’s murder. Roads leading to the Saudi Consulate in Karachi have surveillance cameras at various places. Arab News
