KARACHI: President Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Asma Jahangir has
cautioned if commission on Abbottabad’s operation is constituted like commission
on missing persons then it will be only a waste paper.
She said this in Meet the Press Program here Saturday in Karachi Press Club.
She regretted that human lives have no value in the country and government
has failed to control lawlessness. People are committing suicides and judges are
enjoying chief minister protocol.
The erstwhile court was court of establishment and the present court is
saying change has come in its vision, she said adding this court at least is not
official court. The current judiciary has rendered several good decisions but
there are certain decisions which are incompatible with the dignity of the
judiciary, she remarked. Court had not right to repeal 19th amendment, she
added. Such right rested with the people only, she held.
Judges be appointed in high courts, she demanded. Dictatorship benefits only
the effluents as they become ambassador overnight while democracy, may it be
crippled benefits common man. Democracy does not come only through elections,
she remarked.
Sessions judges were promoted in Lahore but the lawyers were not inducted as
judges, she pointed out. Judges be taken from all segments of society, she
stressed.
Focus is not being placed on governance in judiciary, she said adding “ I
don’t like PCO judge who has taken bath in Ganga”, she observed.
“We know the compulsions of parliament. We are realistic and we want to
charter out a way to avert every situation, she added.
Extra judicial killing was going on in every province but the judiciary
releases the accused persons soon, she underlined. Online
