Cricket: PCB needs to work on batting and fielding as well: Zaheer Abbas

Karachi : Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has always worked on producing bowlers but bowlers alone couldn’t win matches all the time for a team and therefore the board should also bring batting and fielding department in the range of their radar, feels former prolific batsman Zaheer Abbas.
“PCB is working only on bowlers and they have produced good bowlers but attention should also be givento batting and fielding department as well in order to lift the team’s overall performance,” Zaheer Abbas told PPI.Zaheer, fondly called as the ‘Asian Bradman’ for his run scoring ability, said that cricketing abilityof a team stands on three legs like a tripod, which are bowling, batting and fielding.“A team has to lift their performance in all these departments in order to become a strong side. By getting strong in only one department wouldn’t substitute for the other,” he explained. He said that unfortunately the board has been consistently making such a mistake because of which Pakistan cricket team is still an unpredictable side.“Certainly, Pakistan cricket team needs a batting coach in order to lift the game of the team. The board should also work on to lift the fielding of the players,” Zaheer said.Zaheer further informed that the PCB hasn’t contacted him to take the job of a batting coach and addedthat it would be too early for him to say whether he would accept or reject the offer if any would be made.“I would first see the offer and if it suits me and gives me enough authority as I would like to have in order to work properly, then I might consider the job but it would be too early to comment more on the issue as nobody from the board has given me that hint yet,” he said.
