Karachi : United Arab Emirates Red Crescent Authority RCA Tuesday sent a relief convoy of12 trucks carrying about 500 tons of foodstuff, medical supplies to Balochistan as part of its relief program for Internally Displaced Persons IDPs and poor families affected by last summer's heavy floodsin the province.
A meeting to coordinate transport and delivery of assistance was held at UAE Consulate between head ofRCA team Saleh Al Jabri, Bakhit Al Rumaithi, acting UAE Consul General, Sardar Yar Mohammad Jamali, chief of Jamali tribe and representatives of transport services companies.
Al Jabri expected distribution operation to take a week. "The convoy is part of second phase of RCA's humanitarian program for flood-victims in Pakistan. First phase saw delivery of about 1000 tons of relief items in Sindh province," he added.
Bakhit Al Rumaithi said contacts with chiefs of tribes in flood-affected areas had facilitated delivery of relief materials. Tribal leaders had shown good response to and cooperation with the Consulate's efforts. Sardar Yar Mohammad Jamali expressed gratitude to UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, government and people of UAE for assistance to the people. PPI
