Pakistan is democratic rather than security state: Asma Jhangir

Islamabad: Asma Jhangir, counsel for former ambassador to the US, Hussain Haqqani, said Thursday that nation has to build the country as democratic state rather than security state.

“This is our country and we have to make it according to real spirit of democracy, fortunately we have now a democratic parliament so it is our collective responsibility to turn the country into democratic state rather than security state”, she said while talking to the media. She claimed that Hussain Haqqani is innocent but some people want to see him in lock up.
She said that the DG ISI, Ahmed Shuja Pasha is not fit for the job because he violated institutional mandate to meet Mansoor Ijaz without any official permission as Ijaz was blaming Pakistan while his connections are with agencies including RAW.
She expressed that Mansoor Ijaz could not understand how a piece of paper can damage the sovereignty of country. Showing confidence in judiciary, she said, “If the Supreme Court constitutes commission for the probe of Memogate scandal in constitutional way, I would welcome it,” former President SCBA added.
She stated that memo is a political issue so judiciary should not interference into the matter.
She further said US official James johns rejected the role of Hussain Haqqani in memo scandal case while Mansoor Ijaz already said that memo written by three Pakistani security officials and Army Chief General Kayani should take notice on it. Online
