ISLAMABAD: Parliamentary Committee on Judges Appointment has approved
the names of eight judges proposed by the Judicial Council with the
exception of Athar Saeed.
The meeting of the parliamentary
committee on judges appointment was held under Chairman Nayar Hussain
Bukhari at Islamabad on Thursday. The meeting was attended by Senator
Ishaq Dar, Khawaja Asif, Ch Shujaat Hussain and others.
The
meeting reviewed the reports sent by the Judicial Council with the
regards to judges appointments. The committee reviewed the names of
four judges for appointment in Supreme Court. The committee approved the
names of three judges that included Justice Ejaz Chaudhry, Justice Ejaz
Fazal and Justice Saeed Gulzhar respectively while the committee
objected to the appointment of Athar Saeed.
The committee
approved the names of Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed for Chief Justice
Lahore High Court while Justice Dost Muhammad name was approved for
Chief Justice Peshawar High Court while the committee also approved
three names for three additional judges for the Islamabad High Court
which include Shaukat Sidddiqui, Azim Afridi and Noor ul Haq.
Later
talking to media Chairman Nayyer Hussain Bukhari said that the
committee is performing its function amicably by keeping within its
ambit. He said that it is not the job of the committee to appoint judges
on seniority basis and we just make recommendations.
