Punjab govt cancels results of four inter boards after students’ protests

Student’s protest against errors in examination results in various Punjab cities turned violent on Saturday; meanwhile Punjab Education Minister Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman talking to media persons in Lahore announced the cancellation of intermediate part –I results of Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwalk and Multan Boards.

He said that the new results would be announced after two months, adding that no fee would be charged for the rechecking; meanwhile after the announcement of education minister the students ended their protest and dispersed peacefully in front of Lahore Board.
He said that the IT in-charges of engineering universities would be consulted to correct the mistakes in the results.
Meanwhile students staged severe protests at Lahore, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Toba Tek Singh, mandi Bahauddin, Multan and Rahim Yar Khan and blocked the roads and ransacked in boards.
Police baton-charged and tear gassed the enraged students in Gujranwala after they stormed Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) building, beading its main gate, ransacking the office and setting official record on fire.
Some of students have been arrested following clashes with the police who resorted to aerial firing to disperse the students in response stone pelting.
Earlier, hundreds of protesting students from different colleges, wielding batons in their hands and shouting slogans against the administration gathered outside the board building before they stormed it.
Also on Friday, hundreds of male and female students took to roads in various Punjab cities, protesting mistakes in computerized results of intermediate examinations.
Lahore and Multan also witnessed almost the same situation where hundreds of students, blocking main roads, staged protested demonstration against the board authorities.
They demanded immediate action against people involved in announcing the faulty results.
Students and parents complaint that Punjab government made available the results online sans training board’s concerned personnel, resulting in the blunder.
Failed students were declared successful and vice versa in the online results, adding to the miseries of students already facing problems in receiving exam slips for their relevant examination centers.
Meanwhile on the other hand plea registered for the ban on the online registration forms for intermediate and metric. The applicant in his application said that students are facing difficulties due to online registration form, adding that not all students have internet facility and the board website is oftenly not working properly due to which the students are facing huge difficulties.
The applicant requested the court to ban the online registration and ordered to re issue the manual forms for the students. SANA
