Hearing in Musharraf assassination attempt case adjourned

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) has adjourned till first week of November hearing of Musharraf assassination attempt case due to absence of counsel for military .

A 3-member bench of SC presided over by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and comprising Justice Tariq Parvez and Justice Ghulam Rabbani took up the case for hearing Tuesday.
Advocate Hashmat Habib appeared on behalf of accused persons Rana Naveed and Aamir Sohail.
Hashmat Habib argued that Aamir Sohail had not filed appeal against life imprisonment term and nor the government had filed appeal. Enhancement in jail term is beyond comprehension when no appeal in this connection has been made, he said. Sentence was wrong and illegal. The evidence on the basis of which Rana Naveed was acquitted was also given in favour of Aamir Sohail. How can it be possible that on the same evidence one was exonerated and the other was convicted? It was illegal, he pleaded.
He prayed the court the imprisonment awarded to both of them were illegal and these may be set aside.
One major appeared on behalf of military and he told their counsel was outside the country and would return home on November, 1.
The court adjourned the hearing till first week of November. Online
