Ambassador of Egypt, H.E. Mr. Said Muhammad Al-Said Hindam, called on Prime Minister
Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani at the PM House on Tuesday in which he
congratulated the Prime Minister on Pakistan’s winning of a
non-permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council with
comfortable majority.
The Prime Minister underscored the importance of close relations
between Egypt and Pakistan for benefits of two brotherly Muslim
countries.
The Prime Minister recalled his visit to Sharm el Sheikh in
connection with participation in an economic summit soon after assuming
office where he met then US President George Bush and a host of other
world leaders.
The Prime Minister appreciated the Fatwa of Mufti of Al-Azhar
University in which he disapproved of extremists’ activities as these
were bringing bad name to Islam.
The Prime Minister welcomed the Ambassador and said that bilateral
relations between Pakistan and Egypt would further improve during his
tenure. He also highlighted the need of exchange of delegations
especially of students between both countries to enhance
people-to-people contacts.
The Prime Minister said that Pakistan was a frontline state against
terrorism and extremism, adding the country was determined to fight out
these menaces in totality with the support of its people.
The Egyptian Ambassador said that his country values its relations
with Pakistan. He told the Prime Minister that Egypt had decided to
support Pakistan’s effort for Generalized System of Preferences (GSP)
status at the European Union despite his country being a competitor in
the field of textile.
The Ambassador also extended an invitation to Prime Minister Syed
Yusuf Raza Gilani to visit Egypt at a convenient time and date.
Accepting the invitation, the Prime Minister said that he would like to
visit Egypt on a date to be agreed between Foreign Offices of both
countries.
The Ambassador said that Egypt would be very happy to contribute to
socio-economic development of Pakistan, adding that she had also
extended assistance during the earthquake of 2005, floods in 2010 and
torrential rains in the province of Sindh this year.
He conveyed the deepest condolence of the government and people of Egypt on the sad demise of Begum Nusrat Bhutto. SANA
