Acquittal plea of Saud Aziz, Khurram Shahzad rejected

RAWALPINDI: Anti Terrorism Court (ATC) No 1 has rejected application filed by former CPO Rawalpindi, Saudi Aziz and SP Rawal Town Khurram Shehzad seeking acquittal before their indictment in Benazir assassination case.

Saud Aziz and Khurram Shehzad had filed application in the court through their counsel Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui taking the plea that their names were not included directly or indirectly in Benazir Bhutto assassination case . Therefore, including their name later in the case was based on ill intent, they said. Even no clear charges had come to light against them in the challan presented in this case, they stated. Therefore, they should be discharged from the case before their indictment, they prayed.
Chief Special Prosecutor Chaudhry Zulfiqar Ali took the plea on Saturday that Aziz and Shahzad were facing the charges of showing negligence in the duty and destroying the evidence deliberately. They removed SP Ashfaq Anwar from the security duty of Benazir Bhutto and sent him to Koral which caused security lapse. He also cited to the statements recorded by SP Ashfaq Anwar, Dr Musaddaq of General Hospital Rawalpindi, Dr Abdul Rehman of Rescue-1122 and fire officer Ghulam Muhammad Naz under section-154.
The court granted the application filed by Nayab Gardezi counsel for Sehba Musharraf wife of Pervez Musharraf against confiscation of property of Pervez Musharraf and freezing his bank accounts. The court directed FIA to provide defence counsel copy of court’s decision pertaining to confiscation of property and freezing of accounts of Pervez Musharraf.
Begum Sehba Musharraf had taken plea in her application filed in the court that Pervez Musharraf had gifted her the farm house located in Chak Shahzad in 2003 and the bank accounts were jointly opened by her and Pervez Musharraf. Therefore, any property or bank accounts can not be confiscated or frozen by attributing them to Pervez Musharraf.
