Former Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has warned
that America wants to shift the blame for its failure in Afghanistan on
Pakistan.
“The prevailing situation and statements are highly alarming. The
government should evolve a unanimous strategy after taking entire
nation into confidence,” The Nation quoted him, as saying.
He said that the US had crossed red line by conducting the Abbottabad
operation which killed Osama bin Laden, and expressed his fears that
America could again repeat its misdemeanor in the wake of its latest
accusations.
“Pakistan has been the most important ally of America in the war on
terror. But today this ally is being portrayed as foe. It’s highly
inappropriate,” he lamented.
He said that the Americans were faced with severe difficulties in
Afghanistan as American voters had asked their leaders as to what they
had achieved after spending 10 years, billions of dollars and expending
many lives in Afghanistan, the paper said.
He also said that friendship with Pakistan was in American interests as
both the countries had shared objectives, and warned that the
confrontation would not serve the interests of anyone.
His comments came after US military Chief Admiral Mullen had yesterday
said that Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency was
actively supporting the Haqqani network, which is linked to al Qaeda,
and blamed it for an assault on the US embassy in Kabul last week. ANI
