The Jamaat-e-Islami on Saturday announced holding National Conference in Islamabad on September 28 in view of the threats facing the country in general and the Karachi situation in particular.
JI Secretary General, Liaqat Baloch, while making the announcement
at a press conference in the federal capital, said that prominent
political and religious leaders besides leaders of the civil society
had been invited to the moot.
He said that the country was passing through a critical situation
but there was no serious attempt from the government quarters to meet
the challenge. He said that once again, the Prime Minister had called a
national conference although the recommendations of such earlier moots
were never implemented.
He said there was temporary calm in Karachi only due to the suo moto
notice by the Supreme Court but the national leadership must sit
together to find out ways and means for a permanent peace in the port
city and the economic hub of the country.
Liaqat Baloch said that the enemy forces were trying hard to weaken
this country under an international agenda. H said the national
conference would send a message of solidarity for the people of Karachi
that they were not alone as the whole nation shared their worries.
Referring to the US threats, he said these were part of the greater
plan to weaken this country and grab its nuclear arsenal for building
up Indian as regional power. The nation must understand the enemy game,
he added.
He deplored that the Pakistani rulers had brought this country to such a low only in their greed for dollars. SANA
