Prime
Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani during the meeting with US Secretary of
State Ms. Hillary Clinton at Aiwan-e-Sadr on Friday categorically
emphasized that the resolution passed by the Parliament on May 14,
should be respected and no unilateral action against high value target
will be acceptable.This
was stated by Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr. Firdous
Ashiq Awan in her press briefing after the Cabinet eeting.The
official sources informed that the Prime Minister called for developing
joint strategy in this regard which would help minimize trust deficit
between the two countries.The
official source further informed that the Prime Minister stressed upon
the United States that US drone attacks inside Pakistan bordering
areas, are not acceptable, as these are counter-productive in achieving
the common objective to fight terrorism.
While highlighting the economic and
energy challenges of Pakistan, the Prime Minister underlined the
importance of FTA so that the benefit could reach the common people in
Pakistan.
The sources further informed that Prime Minister Gilani clearly mentioned that US-Pakistan relations are based on mutual respect and mutual interests which need to be followed in true spirit so as to strengthen the relationship between the two countries.
This relationship, he added, would prove meaningful when the integrity and sovereignty of Pakistan is respected. As regard Afghanistan, the Prime Minister reiterated that peaceful and stable Afghanistan is essential for peace and stability in Pakistan and the region.
In the same context, he mentioned that he has invited the President of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai to Pakistan in the second week of next month to continue the dialogue process for the Afghan-led reconciliation process in Afghanistan. APP
