Osama bin Laden resisted assault, was shot in the head

Washington: Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden was shot in the head during the assault by US forces at a mansion in Pakistan's Abbottabad city, a media report said on Monday.

CNN quoted officials as saying that bin Laden resisted the night attack.

Besides Osama, three other males and a woman died in the raid. The woman was being used a human shield, the report said.

The US assault team was at the Abbottabad compound for about 40 minutes.

A senior defence official said US Navy Seals was involved in the operation. The Navy Seals are crack commandos highly trained to carry out assaults with surgical precision.

President Barack Obama said the US launched a targeted operation against that compound in Abbottabad.

'A small team of Americans carried out the operation with extraordinary courage and capability. No Americans were harmed. They took care to avoid civilian casualties. After a firefight, they killed Osama bin Laden and took custody of his body,' said Obama. IANS
