Karachi in grip of violence: 3 more killed, 23 vehicles set on fire

KARACHI : Violence erupted after the killing of MQM leader in Landhi area on Monday and at least three more people were killed and many others injured in firing incidents, say police. Unidentified miscreants also set on fire some 20 busses and resorted to aerial firing in different parts of the city.

Soon after the killing of MQM leader, Farooq Baig in Landhi area, unidentified armed men opened indiscriminate fire on a truck bearing registration number RIH-7793 near Korangi Darul-Uloom in Korangi area. As a result the truck driver and cleaner died on the spot.The bodies were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center for medico-legal formalities where the victims were identified as Abdul Razzaq, 45 son of Abdul Bari and Mohammad, 45 son of Meer Azhar.Unidentified armed men set on fire a minibus of route ‘Abdullah Coach’ bearing registration number JE-3144 in Korangi area.In another incident unidentified miscreants set on fire a bus of Hino Pak near RCD Ground in Malir area.Separately, a youth was gunned down and a bus was set ablaze near Chatri Chowk in Pak Colony by unidentified miscreants. Duty officer at Pak Colony Police Station Younis said unidentified armed men opened indiscriminate firing. As a result Mohammad Kaman, 18 son of Mohammad Yousuf received severe injuries. Police shifted him to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he breathed his last. A bus bearing registration number JA-5589 was set ablaze on MA Jinnah Road by unidentified armed men. In another incident a bus bearing registration number JE-8795 was set afire on Rashid Minhas Road nearFayyaz Plaza in the limits of Yusuf Plaza Police Station. A truck bearing registration number PKD-463 was set ablaze in Liquatabad area in the limits of Sharifabad Police Station.In another incident, a man identified as Nadeem was shot injured in Gulberg and a Suzuki pickup bearing registration number TK-4115 was set on fire by unidentified armed men. In yet another incident a bus bearing registration number JE-5501 was set on fire in Racnhore Lane area. A bus bearing registration number PE-5467 was set ablaze near Nishan-e-Hyder Chowk in Orangi Town areaby unidentified miscreants. A Shehzore truck bearing registration number 9615 was set ablaze in Yaseenabad in Federal B area.Two vehicles were set on fire near Punjab Chowrangi in Clifton area.The whole city was in grip of fear and markets and shops in various areas closed. Petrol pumps and gasstations were also closed, creating problems for people. PPI
