KARACHI : Five people including activists of Sunni Tehreek and Ahle-Sunnat-Waljamat (ASJW) were killed and four others were injured in different firing and violence incidents in metropolis on Thursday.
An activist of ST gunned down in Narain Pura old city area within the limits of Eidgah police station.The incident took place in the early hours of Thursday, when 23-year-old Salam Uddin alias Shahzad Lahoti son of Mairaj Uddin Lahoti, resident of Narain Pura, was going to buy milkfrom milk shop when unidentified armed riding a bike open fire on him. As a result he received two bullets one in his head and other in his chest and died on the spot. The culprits manage to flee after committing the crime.The body was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK), for medico legal formalities. After receving theinformation scores of ST workers and area leaders rushed on hospital and chanted slogan against government.SHO Raja Tanveer said initially police revealed that it was the target killing incident, adding that victim was the resident of same area where the incident took place. Quoting eyewitness SHO said two armed men who wore helmets reached at Narain Pura and opened fire on Shehzad, killing him on the spot and escaped.Tension engulf in surrounding areas including Lakhpati Chowk, Narain Pura, Ranchore Line, Punawala Streets and other areas, heavy aerial firing were also reported in several areas of old city area. Some unidentified miscreants trying to close the shops forcibly, but ranger’s personnel reached and opened fire on them resultantly an activist of ST identifed as Mahmood 25 son of Bundo Khan and a passerby Shabbir received injuries.Rangers claimed that they have arrested Mahmood and recovered a TT pistol from his possession. In another incident, an old man was gunned down near Ghaghar Phattak Bin Qasim Town in the limits of Steel Town police station.Police said that 63-year-old Karam Khan Jhokio son of Salman Jhokio, resident of Achar Salar Goth Bin Qasim Town was standing outside his house when unidentified armed men opened fire on him. As a result he received bullet injuries.Police shifted him to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for medial treatment where he succumbed to his injuries.Police officials said victim hailed from interior Sindh and he was the land lord adding that personal enmity might be the motive behind the incident. Police have registered an Fir against unidentified menon the complaint of victim's relative and initiated further probe of the incidnet.In yet another incident, police found four-day-old torture marks body of a man from Gulbai Railway track in the remits of City Railway police station.The identity of victim is yet to be ascertained. The body shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) formedico legal formalities.Police said victim had several torture marks and they have not found any thing to prove victim’s identity. Later the body was moved to Edhi Morgue.In yet another incident Sector Incharge of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) was killed and two others activists were injured by firing in the remits of North Nazimabad police station. The incident took place at Khando Goth North Nazimabad near Mubeen Clinic where 32-year-old Haji Masood Ur Rehman son of Haji Musafir Khan was sitting with his others friends Laiq Ahmed and Habib Ullah, when unidentified armed men riding a bike opened indiscriminate fire on them. Resultantly Masood Ur Rehman died on the spot, while Laiq and Habib Ullah received bullet injuries. The body and injured were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for medico legal formalities and treatment. SP Asad Ali Chauhadry said victim was the sector Incharge of ASWJ and both injured are also activist of ASWJ, adding that initially police revealed that it was target killing incident and might be MasoodUr Rehman is the main target of culprits. Officer said victim was the resident of Block B North Nazimabad and police have recovered multiple empty shells from the scene. President (ASWJ) Aurangzaib Farooqi said victim was the sector In-charge of North Nazimabad area and he was also the assistant of Maulana Taj Hanfi, spokesman of ASWJ. He condemned the killing of Masood Ur Rehman and demanding of the government to arrest the killers who are involved in the killing of top leaders and several activist of ASWJ. Tension engulfs in Nagan Chowrangi and surrounding area after he killing of Masood Ur Rehman killing. Heavy contingents of police and rangers were deployed in sensitive areas. No case was registered till filing the report.Separately the police found the body of youth from empty plot in Altaf Nagar in the precincts of Manghopir police station. The identity of victim is yet to be ascertained. SHO Ghulam Ahmed Sheikh said victim received three bullets adding that the torture marks on victim’s body suspected that he was kidnapped before being shot dead. Meanwhile, the activist of Pakistan People Party (PPP) Ibrahim Brohi who sustained bullets injuries during ambushed at Gulshan Iqbal near Time apartment, succumbed to his injuries after a week treatmentat local hospital.The victim originally hailed from Mirpurkhas area.
