Karachi : In spite of not having the services of its top experienced players, West Indies by winning a T20 and two ODIs against World Cup semifinalists Pakistan till the end of ODI series, is a great achievement for the hosts.
West Indies recorded a formidable ten-wicket in the fifth and last ODI against Pakistan, after the visitors were restricted to a paltry total of 139 runs. West Indies had also won the fourth ODI of theseries on Duckworth-Lewis calculations after the match was stopped due to rain. “When West Indies, on the basis Duckworth-Lewis system, were declared winners in the fourth ODI, whichwas washed away by rain, it appeared that the rain turned the tables in favour of West Indies and gavethem an unearned victory against Pakistan. But their performance in the fifth ODI proved that they were worthy of the win,” former Pakistan skipper Zaheer Abbas told PPI.Zaheer said that the ongoing Pakistan tour of West Indies has turned out to be highly in favour of thehosts, in spite of the fact that Pakistan had earlier sealed the ODI series triumph in the first threematches.“If they (Pakistan) got complacent after sealing the series 3-0 then it shows that they are not a professional team like Australia. And if they had took the fifth match seriously and yet failed to reach a modest total of 150 runs, then this also shows that they are unprofessional as they have no consistency,” he added. However, the former legendary batsman said that he wouldn’t say that Pakistan has performed below-par in the series but he added that they should have performed well considering the fact that West Indies doesn’t have the services of it top players.Swashbuckling Caribbean batsman Chris Gayle, seasoned Chanderpaul and Sarwan were not a part of the West Indies side, which pulled two wins in ODI series and won lone T20 match against Pakistan.Meanwhile, Zaheer said that there is something wrong in the selection process of Pakistan cricket board as many selectors in the past has resigned from the post and now chief selector Mohsin Hasan Khan had also nearly resigned from his post before getting issues resolved with the board. “Iqbal Qasim, Abdul Qadir and Aamer Sohail all resigned from the post of selectors in the past and nowMohsin also nearly resigned before being persuaded by the board not to do so. So all these facts showsthat there is a problem in our selection process and someone tries to trespass in selectors domain,” he said. PPI
