Saudi Arabia assures to investment in energy sector of Pak: Hina Rabbani Khar

ISLAMABAD :  Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar says Saudi Arabia has assured that it will make investment in energy sector in Pakistan.
She said this while briefing newsmen in Islamabad on Thursday about her recent visit to Saudi Arabia.
Hina Rabbani Khar said Saudi Arabia Development Fund will not only be a major contributor for construction of Bhasha Diamir Dam but will also play a role in evolving interest of other Arab Development Funds through a consortium in this regard.

She said Pakistan and Saudi Arabia enjoys exceptionally good relations and will get impetus as a result of her visit to that country.  She expressed the hope that there will soon be high level contacts between the two countries as leadership of both the countries desires that.  She said Pakistan and Saudi Arabia agreed that frequent high level meetings between the two sides would help strengthen the existing friendly ties between the two brotherly countries.

Minister of State said it was also agreed that institutional mechanism which already exists will be activated to promote cooperation and collaboration between the two countries in the fields of investment, finance, trade, defence and export of manpower from Pakistan.  
She said Pakistan is passing through a unique situation with rendering unique sacrifices in the war on terror.

She said that meeting of Joint Ministerial Commission set up between the two countries at the level of Commerce Ministers will be held soon.  She said the meeting has not taken place since 2007.  She said both the countries agreed to evolve an institutional mechanism so that Pakistani labour can affectively contribute to the development of Saudi Arabia.
Minister of State said Saudi Arabia also agreed extend full support to Pakistan in early finalisation of Free Trade Agreement between Pakistan-Gulf Cooperation Council.
She said both the countries have also agreed that efforts should be made towards unity of Muslim Ummah.
To a question, Hina Rabbani Khar said she is confident about the fact that Pakistan and Saudi Arabia do have mutual trust and consulting each other on all important issues, not only specific to bilateral relations, but matters relating to the region as well.
To another question, the Minister of State said strong relations with Afghanistan are necessary for peace in the region.  She said Pakistan fully supports the Afghan-led initiative for peace and stability in Afghanistan.
She said Pakistan has conveyed to the US that done attacks are counter-productive and unnecessary irritant.  She said we are also seeking diplomatic pressure to be able convince US that these attacks are counter-productive.
  To a question about Indian consulates in Afghanistan, she said that we want that Afghan soil should be used for any adventurism. SANA
