ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari was kept up late on Tuesday night by a restless MQM delegation and he was busy burning the midnight oil again on Wednesday night, only this time he was surrounded by his own prime minister and the PPP cabinet ministers.In the meeting, which ended around 1am, it was decided to take the entire political leadership of the country into confidence on the economic situation and to formulate a joint strategy against the new wave of terrorism engulfing the country. According to sources, it was decided that the prime minister would soon convene a meeting of the parliamentary heads of all political parties to brief them on both critical issues.
The sources said the meeting undertook an exhaustive review of the dire economic situation, with Finance Minister Hafeez Sheikh playing the role of the Pied Piper, in the wake of the ongoing negotiations with the IMF. It was decided that difficult decisions, no matter how politically unsavoury, would be taken for putting the economy back on the right track. (The News)
