NRO decision not in line with law: Asma Jehangir

ISLAMABAD: Asma Jehangir, former president Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has said that she was opposed to the NRO but the Supreme Court’s decision on NRO was not in line with the law and the constitution.

Talking to reporters on Tuesday, she said there were several people involved in NRO.
She went on to say that SC could do any thing at present. The institutions should exercise restraint for the sake of nation, she added.
She went on to say that Prime Minister (PM) Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani had appointed Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan his counsel. The matter had reached such a proportion that “our institutions will have to think about it seriously for the cause of nation and survival of democracy, she underlined.
She said former president Parvez Musharraf must be sent to jail but those who joined hands with him should also be put to trial. It would not be in the national interest if we remained buried in the past, she added. Time has come we should think about survival of the people rather than creating situation of clash among the institutions, she stressed.
Islamabad should be made such a capital from where people could hear message of peace rather than making it a place of confrontation, she added. Online
