ISLAMABD: Federal Law Minister Maula Bux Chandio has denied that he is resigning from his post.
The country has been abuzz with reports that Chandio’s predecessor Babar Awan could replace him as law minister.
Moreover,
Senior Pakistan Peoples Party leader Khurshid Shah, while talking to
reporters, hinted that Awan might be returning to the post that he had
renounced to represent the federation in the Zulfikar Ali Bhutto (ZAB)
reference case in the Supreme Court.
Analysts hold that Awan’s
return could exacerbate the rift between the judiciary and the
beleaguered government over the National Reconciliation Ordinance.
Earlier
on Tuesday, the Supreme Court had temporarily revoked Awan’s law
license for contempt of court and instructed the federation to appoint a
new lawyer in the ZAB reference case. Soon afterwards, reports started
circulating that Awan may be brought back as law minister. Online
