Quetta: Unidentified gunmen attacked a security check post in the
volatile Balochistan province and killed five paramilitary soldiers,
security officials said Thursday.
They said that heavily-armed
men launched a pre-dawn attack on a check post in Sui town, which houses
the country’s biggest natural gas reservoir.
The gunmen fled
after the attack and no group claimed responsibility. Security officials
routinely blame nationalist insurgents for attack on security forces
and government’s installations.
The check post was set up at the entrance of the town and was manned by paramilitary soldiers from Frontier Corps.
Residents said they found bodies of five security personnel early in the morning and informed the authorities.
Contingents
of security forces arrived at the scene and launched a search operation
for attackers. No one was arrested, police arrested.
The
incident occurred hours after gunmen shot dead an official of the
Federal Investigation Agency, a drama artist and another man in Quetta.
Police described the attack sectarian motivated as all the slain men belonged to Shiite Muslims.
No
group claimed responsibility. The police blamed the banned extremist
outfit, ‘Lashkar-e-Jhangvi’, which routinely claims responsibility for
attacks on Shiite Muslims. Online
