The meeting of Parliamentary Committee constituted for appointment
of judges’ in higher judiciary held on Friday under the chairmanship of
senator Nayyar Bukhari for approval of recommendations of Judicial
Commission (JC) but could not come to conclusion, and postponed the
matter till November 14.
Meanwhile, the chairman committee Syed Nayyar Hussain Bukhari has
said that the PC has to review the names of many judges of higher
judiciary and the meeting was in-camera so he said that I can just tell
that PC would held its meeting on 14th November and we would decided the
approval of judges names within fourteen days.
Parliamentary Committee has received recommendations of Judicial
Commission 0n October 28 regarding the appointments of four Judges’ in
Supreme Court and three judges in Islamabad High Court as well as
appointments of chief justices of Lahore and Peshawar High Courts also
have recommended by JC.
It is worth mentioning here that the 14 days would completed on
November 10 and if PC fails to build consensus on the names of judges,
than the recommendations of JC would be considered as approved according
to the constitution.
The names of Chief Justice Lahore High Court Aijaz Ahmad Chaudhry,
Chief Justice Peshawar High Court Aijaz Afzal including two senior judge
of Sindh High Court Justice Syed Gulzar Ahmad and Retd judge of Sindh
High Court Justice Muhammad Ather Saeed have been recommended for
elevation to SC by JC.
After four appointments in Supreme Court all the 17 permanent vacancies would be filled.
Judicial Commission has recommended appointments of M Qurashi, Azam Afridi and Shaukat Sidiqqui for Islamabad High Court.
Meanwhile, Judicail Commission has recommended the names of Justice
Sheikh Azmat Saed and Justice Dost Muhammad Khan for their appointment
as Chief Justices of LHC and PHC respectively. SANA
