ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Rehman Malik has said that it is the not
the job of Interior Ministry to issue permits for International
Security Assistance Force (ISAF) containers.
Replying to queries
during Question Hour in the National Assembly on Friday Rehman Malik
said that the democratic government would not compromise on national
security and it would be kept supreme at all cost. He said that we have
approached UNHCR several times to pace up the process of rehabilitation
of Afghan refugees and informed that illegal ID cards of 8,000 Afghan
and Iranian citizens have been blocked.
If any Afghan refugee is found involved in illegal activities then action would be taken against him.
He
said that issuing permits to ISAF containers is not the job of Interior
Ministry and such matters are looked after by the Defence Ministry. He
told the assembly that computerised ID cards are only issued to
Pakistani citizens and not to foreigners. He said that some Afghans did
manage to get CNIC by producing fake documents with the help of some
officers and such officers would be punished.
He said that NADRA
has taken number of steps to control ID card frauds and in this regard
10,086 cards have been cancelled, He further told punishment for
obtaining and carrying fake ID card under the NADRA ordinance is 10
years prison term. However, now assembly has toned down the punishment
to five years or fine money of RS 100,000.
Meanwhile talking to
media persons outside the Parliament House Rehman Malik said the
government was taking solid steps to ensure peace in Balochistan. He
said on the directive of President Asif Ali Zardari he would be visiting
Quetta every week to improve law and order situation by tackling the
abductors in a more vigorous manner. He said the anti-Pakistan elements
were attacking Shia community under a conspiracy but, he added, these
elements would be dealt with an iron hand.
He said a result of
effective measures, target killings in Balochistan had decreased and
added the government would soon overcome these incidents. Replying to a
question about imposing governor rule in Balochistan, the minister said
though he respected sentiments of the people of Balochistan, but the
government would take steps according to the Constitution.
He said the security had been reinforced in Shia community areas and the pilgrims were being escorted and facilitated. Online
