Islamabad: Spokesman of Pakistan Army Major General Athar Abbas said on Thursday
that Pakistan Army personnel were well trained and they had achieved
the objectives set out in Swat and Malakand.He said the main need
of Pakistan army is ‘technical support’ and “we had stressed this
time and again.” He said “in the matter of technical support we need
helicopters and surveillance devices” . He said all tribal agencies
had their own particular issues which could be best tackled with
modern technical support.
He said “we would have been able to save many valuebale lives had we possessed the apparatus as required by us”.
General Athar said five brigades of the army were based in
North-Wazirastan and a full division was deployed in South
Wazirastan. Frontier Corps (FC) was carrying out operation in other
agencies.
He said that Bajaur operation had been a success and 90 percent of work in Orakzai agency had also been completed.
“The main problem that exists now is of border and cross- border movement but we are coordinating efforts to eradicate terrorism on both sides” Athar Abbas added. APP
