Supreme Court rejects FIA report in Hajj corruption case

ISLAMABAD : The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Friday rejected the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) investigation report into Hajj corruption case saying that no action has been taken against the people involved in Hajj corruption case since last three months.

The apex court has ordered the DG GIA Malik Muhammad Iqbal to present the record of applications of investigation officers Hussain Asghar and Syed Javed Bukhari, which they submitted for separation from the Hajj corruption investigations; failing which DG himself should appear before the court for clarification.
A four -judge bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and comprising Justice Javed Iqbal, Justice Khilji Arif Hussain and Justice Ghulam Rabbani heard the Haj corruption case.
The counsel of the federal government abdul hafeez pirzada informed the court that after the court orders the government has started implementation and both the investigation is being called back.
The Establishment Division dispatched a summary to Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, making the services of Javed Bukhari and Hussain Asghar available to Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in Haj corruption case.
Attorney General and federation’s lawyer Abdul Hafiz Pirzada said that a summary has been forwarded to the Prime Minister to hand over Hajj corruption case to these officers in line with the direction of apex court.
Abdul Hafeez Pirzada further said that prime minister is currently on foreign visit and after his return both officers would be deputed for the investigations of Hajj corruption case.
During the hearing the DG FIA submitted the investigation report regarding the hajj corruption case, which was rejected by the court and said that it is just the twisting of facts and figures as no progress has been made.
During the hearing the chief justice iftikhar Chaudhry in his remarks said that by refusing the investigations they have committed the misconduct, adding that proceedings of misconduct should be initiated against these officers.
Chief justice further said that the government paid 640 million rupees due to mismanagement and corruption and the recovery of the looted money is the first priority of the court.
The court later adjourned the hearing till May 13. SANA
