Rehman Malik categorically denies ISI role in politics

Karachi : Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik Tuesday categorically denied that Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) has any role in national politics, saying it (ISI) was "courageouslyfighting against terrorists and anti-state elements."

Addressing press conference with Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah at CM House here, he said what "ISI did was never done before. It was a conspiracy being hatched to malign the intelligence agency."
He said 557 people were killed in Karachi from January to April, 2011. Of them 153 were in targeted killing. Law enforcement agencies have so far arrested 58 target killers. Unregistered SIMs were also recovered from their possession, he added. “All unregistered SIMs in the country would be blocked within 30 days.”  Interior Minister said PPP-led coalition partners in Sindh were determined to maintain peace in Karachi.
Qaim Ali Shah said menace of targeted killings was spread across the country. Karachi was always cynosure of such cases due to its high demography, he added. He condemned bomb attacks on two Navy buses today in the city and said investigation of the incident was underway.IG Police Sindh Fayyaz Ahmed Leghari said every killing was not a targeted and media must confirm reports from police before airing or publishing it.
