Lahore, : Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is negotiating with former skipper Javed Miandad toaccept the post of the team's batting coach.
ODI captain Shahid Afridi Tuesday told mnewsmen after a meeting with PCB chief Ijaz Butt that the board was in talks with Miandad. "I have suggested having a batting coach with the team to work with players and Miandad is one of people the board is in touch with," he added.
Miandad, a veteran of 124 Tests and 237 one-day and also a former coach, had to leave his post due to issues with PCB and within the team. Miandad, now working as PCB's director-general (cricket), often talks about having a bigger role and say in team affairs, and had also accepted a temporary assignmentas batting consultant for New Zealand tour last year.
Afridi felt there is need to have a specialised coach to work with batsmen. Pakistan bowed of just-concluded World Cup after they failed to chase 260 in the semi-final against arch rivals India.
He said he asked selectors and board to consider some new players for West Indies tour starting from April 19. "I think this tour is best chance for us to give exposure to those players who have done well in domestic cricket. The tour will allow the management to assess and groom them," he stated.
