Pakistan to clarify status of Raymon Davis

The Pakistan government will reveal to the Lahore High Court the status of American Raymond Davis, whose gunning down of two Pakistani men has caused a huge diplomatic row.

Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir said Thursday that his ministry will make a statement in the court March 14, Xinhua reported.
In carefully chosen words, he said the ministry was mindful of its constitutional, legal and institutional responsibilities and also alive to its responsibilities under Pakistani law.
'The issue has many dimension(s) and we believe in rule of law,' he told a news conference here.
Davis shot dead two men on a Lahore street Jan 27, saying he thought they were trying to rob him. A speeding car coming to the rescue of Davis ended up killing a motorcyclist as well.
The killings and Davis' arrest led to a major diplomatic row between the US and Pakistan. Washington insists that Davis is a diplomat and should be released.
But there is widespread anger in Pakistan against Davis. He has been charged with murder and is in prison.
