ICJ platform not right for Davis case: Hussain Haroon

Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United Nations Abdullah Hussain Haroon has said the International Court of Justice (ICJ) could neither take a suo moto notice in the Raymond Davis case nor could it directly intervene in it. “It’s a matter between  two countries, which could be resolved out of the courts,” said the country’s Ambassador to the UN while talking to reporters after addressing  inaugural ceremony of a welfare hospital constructed by Khanzada community in Tando Hyder in taluka Hyderabad Rural on Thursday.
It had to be decided by the Government of Pakistan that whether Raymond  Davis enjoyed the diplomatic immunity or not, Haroon said.
He said according to a report published by the US State Department on the Davis issue, the documentation work and investigation were necessary and were  not restricted by the immunity.
Talking about the negative projection of the country’s image abroad by incidents of terrorism and extremism, the Ambassador said although the assassination of Punjab Governor  Salman Taseer, suicide bombing at Data Darbar in Lahore, attack on former federal minister Hamid Saeed Kazmi and other similar incidents led to disquiet in the West  however on the slaying of Federal Minister  for Minorities Affairs  Shahbaz Bhatti even the Vatican City has spoken up.
“This means we will have to take a major  decision which is  not going to be easy,” he added.
About India’s Baglihar and Kishanganga dam projects, Haroon said Pakistan had apprehensions on India’s plans as the latter was committing an “aquatic aggression.”
Earlier while addressing the ceremony, the Ambassador said the people of Pakistan were confronting numerous issues like poverty, unemployment, lack of education and health facilities but in order to address the same problems the common man would have to come forward to help the government in their resolution.
The ambassador  cautioned  the young people to concentrate on their future and to rely on their own efforts for achieving education and employment.
