DASKA - In Daska, the journalists took out apeaceful agitational rally in Daska as a protest against the releaseof accused US official Raymond Davis by the government. Theprotesting journalists were holding the agitational banners andplacards and they chanted anti-government. The rally passed throughall the main inter-city roads and bazaars. The journalists alsostaged a sit-in at Fawara Chowk Daska.
While, delivering their speeches there, the protestingjournalists expressed its grave concerns over the Raymond Davisrelease after reaching reconciliation with legal heirs of twoassassinated youths Faizan and Faheem.
They expressed their reservations with the speed of trial withwhich the case was concluded at Lahore district courts andquestioned the Efree willI of the legal heirs without the aid oftheir lawyers. They said the US in a primary position of power mustset right examples on principles promoting rule of law, justice andequality and such hasty acts would damage its credibility on claimsof upholding rule of law in the wider world.
They demanded the Pakistani government that all those arrestedand imprisoned in Pakistan must be offered due process and equalprotection of law, as there are many who are in prisons for yearswaiting to be tried. The way the matter has been concluded hastilywill raise doubt on government's sincerity such as one sidedpreferential treatment of Americans whereas there was no step forquick repatriation of Dr Aafia Siddiqui who has been sentenced for86 ears, he added.
They said that all citizens must be accorded with the equalprotection of the law irrespective of their race, colour,nationality and financial position.
