Rehman Malik vows to cleanse Karachi from extortionists

ISLAMABAD: Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik has vowed to cleanse Karachi of extortionists.

Talking to media after the meeting held in NADRA (National Database and Registration Authority), Rehman Malik said that extortion was an old issue of Karachi, over which there was a complete coordination with MQM head Altaf Hussain.
He also informed that even the Sindh IGP had been contacted over the issue, who had informed that six extortionists had been recently arrested, while five had been identified.
He cited government’s ‘earlier success’ with the issue of target killings , assuring that extortion issue would also be taken care of; which would also include action against criminal elements of Lyari.
He also informed that 400 additional security and law enforcement personnel had been provided for crackdown against extortionists; while directives had also been issued to chairman to deal with illegal SIM modules of cell phones in this connection.
The interior minister also said that a critical review of security arrangements of President Zardari’s address was also carried out , informing that stringent security arrangements included entries with passes/NICs.
He also brushed aside any dangers posed over threats of terrorism during the joint address.
Rehman Malik also pleaded with Altaf Hussain to review his decision regarding boycotting the joint address by President Zardari, assuring that all his reservations and concerns , including those of extortions would be duly cared for.
Replying to a question, Rehman Malik claimed that he had proofs of Mehran Bank scandal, which would be presented to Supreme Court when demanded.
He said that the affidavit of former DG-ISI included the name of Mina Shahbaz Sharif as No.2 beneficiary of Mehran Bank funds, and said that Shahbaz Sharif should clarify the ease with which he managed to obtain Rs 400 million loan , over a mere phone call.
He said that he had no personal enmity with Mian brothers, but was dismayed over their lies, they uttered from within House of God, The Ka’ aba; cautioning that such tactics could not distract masses from ground realities.
Referring to the Memogate case , he said that Mansoor Ejaz had already confessed that he was in constant touch with 24 global secret services , which should be an eye-opener regarding Mansoor’s character.
The interior minister also assured the regularization for all NADRA employees, on the very grades they were working on. online
