Altaf Hussain links women empowerment to stronger Pakistan

KARACHI: Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain has said that to make Pakistan stronger and more prosperous it is necessary to ensure the empowerment of its women.

He was addressing a large ‘Baiktiar Aurat – Mazboot Pakistan’ (Strong Pakistan – Empowered Women) rally at Bagh-e-Jinnah, Mazar-e-Quaid in Karachi on Sunday.
The MQM chief said that his party has always raised a strong voice for women’s rights. He said only the leadership of the masses could solve the problems of the country.
He said this rally was the biggest rally of women in whole world, and that his party has added a new chapter of history by holding the mammoth rally. Altaf Hussain said that at least one million women participated in the rally.
The MQM chief said that black tribal customs should be put aside now and Pakistani women should be given freedom and empowerment. He called for solving the problems of womenfolk living in the rural areas and stressed for boosting female literacy.
Altaf Hussain said his party would continue to raise voice for the downtrodden people of the country and would bring a bright future for them.

The MQM Chief Altaf Hussain vowed for women empowerment in Pakistan and lawmaking for their protection and due rights in the society.
“The MQM raised its voice for rights of women in the Parliament and at every forum with bravery and courage. It was MQM who got approved bills against the women harassment in the National Assembly,” Altaf said.
He said that women empowerment would ensure strong and prosperous Pakistan.
He feared that Balochistan would be lost if the problems facing the province were not addressed. Hussain demanded that missing persons of Balochistan should be united with their mothers and other loved ones.
The MQM chief further said that MQM was not against any nationality, adding its struggle was aimed against feudal lords and plunderers.
Altaf demanded recovery of 28 missing workers of his faction, calling upon the rulers to take immediate steps for recovery of other missing persons belong to various political groups and nationalities.
He claimed that the rally was being attended by one million women.
“This is a historic rally of Pakistan, a rally of MQM’s one million women supporters. The country has never witnessed such mammoth political meeting of women activists,” the MQM chief said.
Farooq Sattar in his welcome address said that the MQM has given the women a platform to stand shoulder to shoulder with men.
Starting address to the gathering via video link from London, Altaf recited verses from the holy Quran.
Earlier, in charge of Women Wing of Muttahid Quami Movement instructed that rallies bringing thousand of MQM women workers on the roads should not disrupt the traffic flow and daily lives of the road users and only those routes should be used which would not cause any problems to them.
The rallies should not use routes that have hospitals, mosques and other places of worship nearby and special care should be taken to ensure that ambulances do not get stalled on the roads.
