US says good counterterrorism relationship with Pak in both nations' interests

US Bureau of Counter- terrorism head Ambassador Daniel Banjamin has stressed the need for maintaining good counter-terrorism ties with Pakistan.

"But let me go back to basics. We think that it is essential that we have a good counterterrorism relationship with Pakistan. We believe it's in both of our nations' interests," The Daily Times quoted Banjamin, as saying.

No country has suffered more at the hands of militancy than Pakistan. We hope to continue building civilian capacity for countering terrorism," he added.

Banjamin also admitted to the escalating tensions between Pak-US ties after the deadly November 26 NATO airstrike, which had killed 24 Pakistani soldiers.

"There's no question we're going through a difficult time in the wake of the (November 26, 2011) cross-border incident and a number of other incidents that have occurred in the last year," he added. (ANI)
